Buying a Solar Farm - A fundraising video.

People Power

Sometimes the best video production projects are those that come along and give you a good dose of hope, Here Now’s most recent fundraising video with Yealm Community Energy did exactly that.

Terry - The Men’s Shed, a beneficiary of the solar farm community fund.

Imagine a world where every house, town and village played a part in producing the energy they used. No huge inefficient national grids, no big energy firms and no hiking prices. Well, the towns along the bank of the River Yealm in Devon imagined exactly that, in fact they’ve done more than imagine, they’ve come together to pool money so that together they can buy the local solar farm in the hope of creating year round cheap, green energy owned by local people, for local people and what’s more is that any profits the solar farm makes go to powering a local community fund - a pot of money open to anyone, big or small, with an ambitions to do good in their community.

A Fundraising Video

We were asked by Yealm Community Energy to make a video fundraiser to help them raise money from the local community to buy the local solar farm off the current commercial owners. It’s a simple proposition “help us bu this solar farm and in ten years time we will buy your shares back at a guaranteed price”. What’s most powerful for people investing is the idea that the money they put in genuinely makes a difference on their doorstep. It’s so easy to understand, your money directly purchases solar panels which can be fund in a field around the corner, easy as that. Run by volunteers Yealm Community Energy is a great example of how people can come together to act local whilst thinking global.

Videos and films are often the first time a brand or project has a piece of messaging that ties together everything they stand for. It’s their tone of voice, their community, their ask to their audience. We love these project as the moment we hand over the video to our partner is often the first time they’ve see all their own handwork come together.

It was a privilege to be a part of the Yealm Community Energy project, if only for a short while. The opportunity to work with their community and tell the story of their founders and off the projects that have benefited from the community fund has been fantastic!
