What’s a brand film?
Well, it’s any film a brand makes to tell a story about who they are and what they stand for.
“But what about promo videos, corporate videos, event videos… aren’t they all brand films?” you might ask.
Technically yes – if a brand made it, it’s a brand’s film. But when marketers talk about a “brand film,” they usually mean something a bit more special.
It’s not just any old video with a logo slapped on; it’s a film with a particular purpose and feel. In plain terms, brand film production tends to be more about storytelling and identity than about pushing a specific product or event.
Think of a brand film as the video that captures a brand’s soul. It’s the kind of piece you’d show someone to say “this is us.” It goes beyond a promo or ad by focusing on the bigger picture of the brand’s personality, values, and mission.
In other words, not all corporate videos or event recaps hit that mark. A genuine brand film usually checks at least one of these boxes
Types of brand films:
- Evergreen Story Anchor: It’s often an evergreen piece of content that serves as an anchor for who the brand is and what it wants to show the world. Unlike a one-off ad campaign, a brand film stays relevant over time as a core story about the brand’s identity.
- Big Brand Moment: Sometimes it’s created for a big announcement, rebrand, or shift in direction. A brand film can mark a milestone or new chapter, introducing audiences to a bold change or the next big thing for the company.
- The “Why” > The “What”: A brand film is usually more about the why behind the brand than the what it sells. It might delve into the brand’s mission, origin story or ethos – the driving force that makes the company tick – rather than just showcasing products or services.
In short, a brand film is authentic, down-to-earth, and often a little more heartfelt or cinematic. To make this concept less abstract, we’ve put together some of our recent brand films to give you a sense of the variety of films that can be counted as a brand film.
6 Examples of Powerful Brand Films
Below are six brand films we’ve created at Here Now Films, each with a unique twist, to show exactly what a “brand film” can look like in practice. As a video production company in London, we work with clients across the board – from fashion brands like FatFace to global banks and cultural institutions. Here are a few recent examples of brand films we’ve made for our clients, and why each one works.
FatFace – Seasonal Campaign Storytelling
FatFace has partnered with us on seven national campaign films for their Spring, Summer, and Autumn collections in the UK. Each video is like a mini story that captures the vibe of the season and the free-spirited lifestyle at the heart of the FatFace brand. From sun-soaked road trips in a vintage VW Beetle to cozy family moments on a Yorkshire farm, these films go beyond just showcasing clothes – they celebrate the feeling of adventure and optimism that FatFace represents. It’s a strong brand film example because it acts as an evolving yet evergreen narrative for the brand. Over multiple seasons, the core message stays consistent: here is who we are and the life we live, told in a way that makes viewers want to be part of that story.
KYN London – The People Behind the Brand
KYN is a revolutionary luxury care home in London, the brand films we created for them took on a micro-documentary style. Rather than a typical corporate overview, we made a series of short films that introduce you to the people behind KYN – from the head chef crafting joyful meals to the designers (like Nina Campbell) who made the place feel like a true home. Each mini-story offers a genuine peek into why KYN is not your usual care home (think personal nutritionists, private cinemas, art-filled walls – the works!). By focusing on the passions and philosophies of the staff and creators, this film series doesn’t just say “KYN is a great care home” – it shows how and why KYN is creating a place you’d actually look forward to growing older in. This human-centric approach makes it a standout brand film, rooted in authenticity and purpose.
Tate – Artful Brand Storytelling
Tate came to us to help bring their exhibitions to life through film — not with a straight tour of the artwork, but through the voices and stories of the artists themselves. What we created were micro-documentary style brand films that sit somewhere between an artist profile and a gallery piece. These weren’t ads. They were moments of connection.
Each film was built around a different exhibition and artist, including names like Ro Robertson and Outi Pieski. We travelled to the artists’ homes, studios, and landscapes – capturing them at work, talking about their practice, and reflecting on their inspiration. Then we wove that with footage of their work in Tate’s spaces — from the windswept cliffs of St Ives to the clean, iconic lines of the galleries.
This series of films are less about Tate as an institution, and more about what it stands for — a platform for bold, diverse, global artists. These are brand films that show Tate’s values in action: openness, cultural depth, and artistic integrity.
AlTi – A Cinematic Corporate Brand Film
AlTi Tiedemann Global, a wealth management firm with offices in London and New York, needed a film to introduce their newly merged brand on the world stage. We delivered a cinematic corporate brand film that looks and feels as polished as a feature – because finance doesn’t have to be dull. This piece combined interviews with AlTi’s leaders (including CEO Mike Tiedemann) and rich visuals of global cityscapes, blending in motion graphics to highlight their expansive reach and expertise. The story here was about trust, scale, and vision: it positioned AlTi as not just another finance company, but a forward-thinking global partner managing “billions, not millions.” By focusing on the human leadership and the breadth of what they do (rather than, say, a specific product or service), the film builds credibility and a sense of legacy. It stands out as a brand film because it isn’t just facts and figures – it’s about conveying AlTi’s identity and values in a way that resonates emotionally (think confidence, stability, and innovation all at once).
Coloro – Defining the Brand’s Identity (in Full Color)
Coloro is a cutting-edge colour system company (partnered with trend forecasters WGSN), and their brand film had a clear mission: explain who Coloro is and why it matters to the design world. We created a talking-head led piece titled “Who Are Coloro?” – essentially a crisp, engaging overview of the brand’s story and its unique relationship with WGSN. Through interviews with the Coloro team and behind-the-scenes glimpses of how they forecast trends, the film paints a picture of a company all about creativity, precision, and collaboration. It shows how Coloro helps brands pick the right colours and stay ahead of trends, highlighting the why (“to make design easier and more innovative for everyone involved”). This is a strong brand film example because it takes what could be a complex B2B offering and turns it into a relatable story of innovation. By the end, you don’t just understand what Coloro does – you understand their purpose and the excitement behind their work, which is exactly what a great brand film should achieve.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan – Summer Lifestyle Narrative
The Lost Gardens of Heligan (a renowned Cornish heritage garden) wanted a summer campaign film that would enchant families and nature-lovers alike. We responded with “The Jungle Giants,” a brand lifestyle film that sees Heligan through the eyes of its smallest residents. In this playful piece, we follow a family’s day out at the gardens, but here’s the twist – the camera often drops to the insects’ perspective. Suddenly, a young boy peering through a magnifying glass becomes a giant explorer in a jungle of green, and the whole adventure feels like a storybook come to life. This creative approach was more than just pretty flower shots (though there are plenty of those!); it was about celebrating why Heligan is magical: it sparks curiosity and kid-like wonder for nature. By showing the gardens from a fresh angle, the film embodied Heligan’s brand ethos of discovery and fun in the natural world. It’s a fantastic brand film example because it doesn’t just advertise a destination – it invites viewers into an experience and evokes the emotional connection people have with this special place.
Thinking About Your Own Brand Film?
Every brand has a story worth sharing – including yours. A brand film can be a campaign center-piece, an origin story, or something in between. The best part is there are no hard rules beyond staying true to who you are. As you can see from the examples above, a brand film could be adventurous and funny, or artful and inspiring, or sleek and corporate – as long as it connects with your audience on a human level.
If you’re thinking about making a brand film for your company – whether it’s a big rebranding reveal or a simple heartfelt portrayal of your mission – we’d love to hear from you.
